Now that the very different school year ended, we have moved into a very different kind of summer. Vacations are canceled, jobs are lost, people are hurting, and many are still cautious. With all that is going on, if we aren’t careful with our thoughts, they are likely to take us into a scary downward spiral and lose Hope. My current “self-work” has centered around the battle of the mind. I am frankly holding loosely to summer plans and holding tightly to the verse below.
Pinked Update and Current Needs:
The frequency of mastectomy surgeries has been down in hospitals all over the country due to COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t many out there struggling with the devastating news of a breast cancer diagnosis and their (now) trickier treatment options. We are happy to be able to offer support during these overwhelming times.
Other than a few Family Kit Assemblies, we have had to hold off on gathering folks together to assemble kits since the pandemic began. Our current supply of assembled kit continues to dwindle. So to be honest, one of our greatest needs at this time would be a gathering of friends to put some kits together. If there is anyone that would be willing to host an outdoor, mask-required, social distanced kit assembly in the coming weeks, please let us know!
SAVE THE DATE…Saturday, October 24th will be our annual fundraising event. We are still welcoming ideas for what Think Pink 2020 will look like!
One thing we are fortunately not short on these days is offers for sewing help. Collaboration is something we love as a ministry as well, especially with other awesome charities in our community. Wendy Preslan of NanaSue Photography Healing Images is not just an amazing photographer, but thanks to the pandemic has re-discovered her passion for sewing. She has done countless hours of sewing masks and this has led her to start Stitches of Kindness, a division of her NanaSue Photography Charity. Be sure to visit her website for more information on Stitches of Kindness. If you would like to join in our sewing efforts and donate sewing supplies, we would certainly welcome this help. We are currently in need of Poly-fil, velcro and any pink cotton or flannel fabrics (found on the Amazon Wishlist) for the sewing of our Mastectomy Pillows, Velcro Flannel Wraps and Drain sacks.
