My mom gave me a gift this week! I love gifts. I love to receive them {especially the unexpected ones}, but even more than receiving them, I love to give them. I come by it naturally because of my mom. She is a thoughtful gift-giver. It seems that she is constantly thinking of how she might bring joy to someone by giving the perfect little {or big} something. As one would imagine, my kids especially love this quality about my mom, “Mimi”.
But back to the gift she gave me this week….
It is a framed print from Dee at Red Letter Words that simply states “You are Loved”. While it was extremely thoughtful and now sits on my kitchen counter as a sweet reminder throughout my day, it is a statement of the obvious. I don’t think I have ever doubted that I am loved. My mom has invested her entire life in making sure that I know that she loves me, and even more importantly that Jesus loves me.
There have been a million moments and tons of ways that my mom made this obvious to me. It is obvious in all the sacrifices she has made to ensure my best-being. It is obvious in the way she has tenderly taken care of me from infancy to my thirties when I was sick from the effects of cancer. It is obvious in how she spends time with me and my kids. It is obvious in the way she has always been my número uno fan and cheerleader in everything I attempt. It is obvious in the way she seeks to love and honor my dad.
To look back on all my 37 years and realize that I have never questioned that my mom loves me. That is truly a gift….a gift most certainly worth passing on.
